   [re] culf reduction
Dear Lydia,

Thank you for your interest in my clinic.
I received you email and photos and sent virtual surgery picture already.
You can be a good candidate for calf reduction surgery.

I'll answer your questions.
>Are the results permanent? Is there any chance for muscle to grow back?
>The result of calf reduction surgery is permanent because removed muscle fiber can't be regenerated.
Evenif you do a lot of exercise after calf reduction, Gastrocnemius muscle will not become bigger.

>Is there any medical conditions patient may have that prohibits this operation?
>If the patients are not suitable for general anesthesia like severe heart or lung disease, this operation is not recommended.

>Is there any permanent side effects or medical problems what may appear, is anything may cause difficulties in walking?
>  Partial resection of Gastrocnemius muscle is the safest and the most effective calf reduction surgery.
Because muscle is enclosed in muscle fascia, there is no possibility of injury to other important nerves, muscle, vessels.
There is no possiblity of walking disability after this surgery also because underlying Soleus muscle can compensate the loss of function of Gastrocnemius.

>Is the Varicose Vein could be an obstacle for calf reduction surgery?
>No.

>How visible the scar is after surgery and for how long? Do you recommend steroid injections for scar treatment in this area?
I incise about 2 cm following the natural flexion crease at the back of knee.
Within 6 months, most of scar can be faded.
If the scar becomes elevated, red, hard, steroid injection can be recommended evenif it is very rare.
